Doug was a Hunterdon County Park Ranger and Historian for 26 years. He now lives in Bordentown and served a President and is currently VP of the Bordentown Historical Society. Doug will be speaking on Bordentown resident Civil War Union Major General Gersom Mott. Some Civil War service and connection to our area. While in Bordentown Mott lived on Prince Street overlooking the Crosswicks creek. Free

Speaker: Gary Wilson : The Union Blockade: Crippling the South's Ability to Wage War.

There were only 100,000 sailors in the Union Navy, but their efforts greatly wrecked the South's economy and its ability to keep armies in the field. Gary's Great-Great-Grandfather, John Frederick Ehlers, USN, served 3 years as Carpenter's Mate on the USS Samuel Rotan which was commission in Philadelphia on 12 Nov 1861. Gary will explore the concept, implementation, and effectiveness of the Union Blockade and show how the Samuel Rotan assisted. Free
